Distance from port

What distance are all the small boat owners happy to venture from the mouth of the tyne?

Just got a list of wreck coordinates from KeithB and some of them are 30 miles from the piers. Wondering how far is far enough out in therms of a 20ft fishing boat. Do boats tend to 'buddy up' the further out they go?

Stu,
You need to take many factors into consideration. I have a 16 footer and personally would set no limits ...IN THE RIGHT CONDITIONS.

I did consider launching it at Portsmouth and going to Aldernay but the problem would be getting back if the weather cut up.

Its a great idea to go out with a buddy but you will find that all boaters will respond to an appeal for help.

Never forget ...if it cuts up rough or the fog rolls in it doesn't matter if you are 2 miles or 12 miles out...you still have your work cut out to get back. My boat is capable of 35 knots so I can get back in fast if needed. So best you read the forcast and choose your distance based on that and your economical cruising speed. When you consider the number ofwrecks in a circle 30 miles radius of the tyne you should have plenty for a days fishing within a safe radius on any particular day.

I wonder how much I have to beg to get Keith to send me a copy of that list ;)

Cheers
Dave
