Is the problem occuring while your connected to a sky box?

No mate, switch on at the mains it goes into standby. Press a button on the remote to switch on ... it sounds like it goes to switch on ... it then beeps 10 times (very high pitch and sounds like a bird tweeting!) and then switches itself off. The screen remains completely blank throughout the process. There is no sound apart from the bleeps which incidentally seem to be coming from a component inside the TV as opposed to the audio system.
Think I'll just cart it off to the tip.

Is it just out of Warrenty ?
i reckon the component will be the txt alerted F*ck it up box ,(activated by the shop you bought it from or them Robbing Warrenty Firms)so you either get it fixed (for the price of a small home) or do what your thinking ,and chuck it in the skip and get a new one ,then when you tell the Salesman you dont want the extended warranty ,the serial number of your item goes in the diary for a txt msg in three years time
