Well, today's target species for the hunt was the Turbot. Accompanied by a couple of friends I headed for Druridge Bay. As I walked through the dunes I thought the sea was maybe a little lively for turbot. We fished the ebb from about 9am, through bottom water and about an hour into the flood.

I set up and cast my lines. After about 15 minutes I noticed a couple of small taps. I picked up the rod but couldn't feel anything. I gave a couple of turns of the reel and felt a fish jump on the bait.

So that was it. Target species on my first cast........

Sadly, that was my only fish of the day despite trying for another six hours.

Happily the other two lads also got their turbot so I guess that will be my first and last visit to Druridge Bay for this year.

Well done on the turbot mate. I had the same idea and headed there this morning for top water, nothing. Totally weeded off when the tide turned so headed back. Looks like I need at least one more trip up there.:D

I did the same last year, drove up after work on a lovely sunny evening and got one first chuck, then another second. Nice place to spend a few hours.

When I was there I found them literally 15 yards out at low tide, just past where you could see the bottom. Little spinning rod and keep twitching the bait which was rag tipped off with a sliver of fish.

Thats how I got mine when I was up there, low tide casting into the pools with light gear. I think they tend to spread out along the beach as the tide floods.
