Dunstanbourgh Castle

Got to the castle for just after 9am on Sunday morning. Only had a few rag worm for bait so first task was to see if i could get any mackreal. First chuck with the daylights and i had two in. Within 20 minutes i had caught 8 so taht was enough for me to start bait fishing for Pollock and Wrasse.
I set up my spinning rod with a float and fished rag worm straight down the side. Had loads of knocks but all i was catching were small coalies and granny fish.
After about an hour i got a really big knock and thought i must be into a pollock or wrasse only to see an eater crab surface from the water.
This was soon followed by a velvet crab.
Decided to chuck my big rod out with a leadhead and jelly worm to try for pollock, with no luck after an hour or so i decieded to put a chunk of mackreal on with the jelly worm and leave it out. Five minutes after i put it out i got a tap and something was tacking line off my reel so i put the spinning rod down and reeled in my first shore caught ling! I tried the same tactics again for a while but lost what felt like a good fish when it swam in the direction of the seal and everything disapeared!! No Pollock or Wrasse this time but i'll keep trying... tonight infact i'll be along the point at Beadnell trying!

Happy days Gregg, well done. I had a session up there last week but caught the dreaded man flu and never got round to a report. I had the rocks to myself for most the day and although I never caught much or anything big I enjoyed it cos had 4 species and the wrasse was my first for a while and a new addition to this years species list. Also had maccy coalies to 2lb and 2 small pollock on light spinning gear

I also took a heavy outfit as well as the light gear hoping that a nice cod or ling may be lurking or even a conger with insomnia! No luck but baits were coming back chewed up. I used blueys for the first time and there always seemed to be interest but didn't hook anything. Once defrosted they still had a very bright silver belly which which was good and caught pollock and coleys under a float
