Tonight was the first of our Winter Comps and was fished on Seaham Hall Beach between 1830hrs and 2230hrs, using the SAMF catch, measure and release score charts
The wind had died ofF nicely and there was a canny sea on with plenty of colour, so hopes were high.
Twelve anglers fished the Comp and took up positions at the North end of the promenade, with lights visible from ryhope to the featherbed rock.
Ian Ainsley was into two nice Whiting with his first two casts, before anyone had bothered the scorer, but things slowed down from then on. It wasn't until around two hours into the Comp, that Peter Chadwick noticed a slack liner and struck into a decent fish, and within minutes a nice 59cm Cod was beached (5lb 8oz). Out came the cod rigs loaded with crab, but only one furher cod was landed.
Some decent looking Whiting were landed, but no one was going to overtake Peter's score for his cod. Out of the twelve anglers, only eleven fish were caught, so a bit of a disappointing night for most of he lads.
Peters fish took frozen crab, with the rest of the fish taking worm baits.
RESULTS.
1st Peter Chadwick. 1 fish for 190pts. (cod 5lb 8oz)
2nd Derek Sirret. 3 fish for 126pts
3rd Mick Dunn. 3 fish for 86pts
4th Ian Ainsley. 2 fish for 59pts
5th Dave Kennedy. 1 fish for 26pts
6th Ian Jackson. 1 fish for 20pts
