Thirteen anglers attended this comp, including junior member Jason Pool which was pegged on a mark, west of the Glass Centre on the River Wear. The weather was a little rough with high wind and a little sleet, and was fished on a dropping tide between 1830hrs and 2130hrs.
The scoring was based on 18cm and above with scoring using SAMF catch n release score card.
Most anglers were into coleys from the off, which were taking rag worm tipped with fish baits, with only a few flounder showing.
With the tide ebbing stronger, the coleys dispersed, leaving the odd codling and flounder to keep the anglers busy.
Peter Chadwick, although with only one fish to show, did manage to take the Specimen fish, a nice 34cm flounder.
Mick Dunn and Ian Ainsley, although pegged at opposite ends of the swim, managed to run each other close with the total fish caught with Ian coming out on top with 17 to Micks 13.
Canny session, was had by all, with only Mel (el blanco) Anderson, failing to score.

I,ll have to say thanks to John at the Friarage for selling me five frozen peeler last week. This was defo the best bait up at my end. Each crab quartered and put on the size 2 hooks.
I also used frozen runny on one hook and and rag tipped with macky on the other which caught fish.
One of these days chut i,ll beat you.
Thanks for a good compo mate.Enjoyed myself.

Mick.

Shame i couldnt have been there, i would have fancied it. Unfortunately I was in Pardubice in the Czech republic watching Pardubice vs Zlin in the Ice hockey play offs, sinking many pints of dirt cheap pilsner urquell and eating magnificent dirt cheap food. As much as i love fishing it was a bit better than a night stood in wind and sleet on the river wear!

Seems a canny spot though as a few fish caught again same as the northumbria comp the week before.

Not as many flatties Ian. But still some canny coleys. Cheap beer. Cheap wine. Cheap women. Sounds canny. I had cheap Mick lol

Hello Ian glad you joined up mate. You would have enjoyed yourself mate fishing was spot on. Peeler did the damage again.
