Out of bed 5.02 , in the car by 5.30 , in the boat and cruising down to a flat calm rivermouth by 6.00 am :) brilliant.
Superb weather today , if a little cool for june , but I'm not complaining , I filled a box with cod again , was treated to an acrobatic diplay by a dozen dolphins for half an hour and spent a glorious day at sea doing my favourite thing , no I wasn't fishing today............ I was catching :D
Pirks and shads all day , one tiny ling , the smallest I've ever seen , one coalie and a rake of cod , once again nothing massive , but non stop action with decent size fish.
Managed to steer clear of mackerel again too , which is always a bonus ;)

well done ray the early bird (norman) and all that, you would have the place to yourself as well i bet:D

Strangely enough today was one of those rare occasions where I had company on a wreck , I had been fishing the hornchurch for a couple of hours and had half filled a box with 3lb cod when another boat came alongside and drifted with me for half an hour or so before I started to feel a bit claustrophobic and moved  :DHe was fishing solo as well and was pulling up strings of mackerel while I was taking cod on a shad.
Strange wreck the hornchurch , I had my p.b. cod from it two years ago and have hardly had a fish off it since , even though there are fish on it now they seem to be on the small side and a lot of them were discoloured and went straight back.
The dolphins were spectacular , I've seen lots of dolphins over the last few years but never so many in one place and jumping like they were today , they were like hooked marlin jumping vertical and spinning before dropping back in the water , great to watch. They are bloody big though and being black and white have an uncanny look of orca about them , I remember drifting a few miles off a couple of years ago and there were a few around the 165 I had , really enjoyable ........... until they started rubbing along the side of the hull and rocking the boat :red: .
I tried to video them today , it was damn hard to do , the viewer on the video camera jsut looked pure blue (sea and sky) and it was a case of point at them and hope for the best , there are some reasonable shots on there , but they are few and far between amongst the camera flashing all over the place to a new position every time I heard one move or breath, great fun today though , thoroughly enjoyed myself.

whats your secret on staying awy from the maki.....lol

Pirks and shads , I keep clear of hokkais and daylights etc unless I actually want to catch a mackerel , funny thing is I tried for years to catch a mackerel from the pies and rocks etc. with my coarse fishing tackle and only ever succeeded in catching a "horse mackerel"?? , it was similar but wasn't a mackie :D , now I try not to catch them :)
