End of the Mackerel season

Hi all, can anybody tell me if it's too late to catch mackerel, now where into September or will there be any stragglers around the piers? Is so, other than the likes of Blyth and South Shields piers are there any other decent spots to catch any.
Thanks a lot.

I'm no expert but it could well be over. If we have settled weather the mackerel may come in but probably not in huge numbers. Get some bait in the water and try and catch some codling :)

They were still being caught in multiples by one or two folk a week ago now but nothing like the numbers of a month or two back. I blanked on shields pier on Monday gone, (although I was only fishing a single spinner) while there were others pulling the odd pair out on daylights etc.

I'm hoping to get a few either tomorrow or Tuesday but I'm thinking of trying Eyemouth, rather than Shields, as they're locking the gate early now, as apparently its "winter"

I don't mean to sound rude but I think you'd be wasting your time. Save your fuel :)

Once the northerlies start and the water gets dirty its about had it. I can usually tell as soon as I walk along pier if any Mackeral will be caught by the clarity of the water and if any baitfish about.

Eyemouth still worth a shout its not just mackerel theirs Pollock coleys and codling wrasse and any amount of mackerel defo worth the fuel

thier was mackeral being caught on shields pier today into the wheel the lad had 4 in a northely ground swell and coloured water

Two lads washed in at Eyemouth - one rescued the other presumed drowned. Don't know the area but doesn't sound like macky weather.
