Not looking to buy, trade or sell. Just after some quick opinions on a fair price for a second hand Greys Apollo Mk1 14ft? Couple of scratches on it but to be expected for age I suppose, all in all its in good nick. I have the chance to buy one and not sure if the price is right

Just a thought, have you tried searching through posts/threads on the subject you may find some help there.

Cheers Sid. From what I have seen onefortheroad is spot on. This bloke wants £130, going to see if I can talk him down. Cheers

I bought one brand new 4 year ago from Greys Shop at Alnwick, for £100. I sold it a year or 2 later for £70. I've just sold a Mk3 for £90. For a good condition mk2 should be looking to pay no more than £80. IMO !!!
Hope this helps Marra...

Think that blokes having a laugh, then again that must be what he wants for it.I wouldnt pay anymore than £80 notes for one.

Yeah anth its just for the rod. There was a lad in Sunderland selling one with a slosh 30 all in same price as this lad wants.

I fish with a Greys rod just now that I picked up from Hardy's bargin section. I have only heard good things about mark 1's (made before blanks were manufactured abroard etc.) and fancy one for the rough stuff. Last time I was in shop they had mostly Triplex's in bargin section, not what I am after.

Could look at second hand Conoflex etc, any suggestions on a good rough ground model?

Thanks for the help lads

I remember Simon at Lewis's telling me earlier this year (before they closed) that the second hand price of Mk1 Apollos had skyrocketed…people were paying £120-150 for them and people selling them (unless they wanted a quick sale) were holding out as people (not necessarily from the NE) were prepared to pay for them. The Mk2 was the unpopular one, a lot of people hated them from the get-go and they were pretty short lived before being replaced by the Mk3 which was a much better rod. The Mk2s were pretty quickly relegated to the bargain-bin at Hardy's place in Alnwick where you could get them new for about £99. A couple of years back you could hardly give them away…certainly hard pushed to get more than about £40-50 for one. The Mk3s and the latest models never really seemed to take off, despite being pretty good rods..I guess a lot are put off by the Chinese production these days and they seem harder to shift second hand.

Gary :)
