After some considerable preperation a friend and I decided that today was to be the first session of the season. With the wind changing to a Southernly and with a bit of a sea on yesterday, we knew the mark was likely to throw up a Codling or two (we hoped).
I was being introduced to this mark for the first time but I knew of the reputation that it came with.
We had decided to fish the ebb during the daylight hours and this brought about some challenging problems.
We were fishing straight in to the kelp and rock beds during the ebb and it was brutal. I was starting to have my doubts.
Three shockleaders, one error that was identified and a horrific bird's nest later it was time for a cup of tea and a sarnie!
My mate offered to go "somewhere else" as I said I believed it was unfishable in the state that it was at that location during the ebb. We stayed though as I had faith that the bites would start during the forthcoming flood and the coming of darkness.
With more water over the features we would get up and over the kelp in particular.
Thank god we did because it resulted in a 7lb 12oz beauty!!
It took lug and defrosted crab on a 2/0 clipped down rig.
I had changed my set up to 40lb straight through due to the previous loss. I am so happy that I did!
All in all a cracking day that blew away the cobwebs (big time) and produced a PB for me at a new location and South of where I normally fish!
Good luck to all this season,
All the best, Wayne.
