first trip out

should be heading out on 'wicked jack' for the first trip of the season on sat all going to plan.
was wondering, im assuming its too early for hokkis, daylights etc, so are people just motoring out and anchoring over rough ground and just using bait?
p.s. im launching from beadnell - any feedback appreciated.

Hokkais and daylights just fine Dave, bait with rag and/or squid and drift hard ground, keeping in touch with the bottom at all times ..... will be fine

I do much the same and only need a small bait compared to what we use off the beaches. A couple of lures tipped with half a ragworm or a lugworm does the job until the mackeral show up. It's worth fishing the drift if you're able to keep your bait on the bottom without it dragging too fast.

Good luck and post some picks for those of us who are "enjoying" a lock-in.

Just thought I'd throw this in I found last weekend a 3ft flowing trace with about 3 or 4 lugworm on a 4/0 hook did the trick it's small tide this weekend so drifting will be a slow speed perfect for the job just keep intouch with the bottom the drifting enables you to cover alot more ground looking for fish where as anchored up means the fish have to come to you don't discount a jigger if the water clears up sometimes it's just what they want especially if it's sunny.
