There was a season in the 70's or 80's, can't remember what year it actually was; when there was loads of Rays Bream caught from Blyth beach; and I mean loads of them.
Maybe Alan or Sam can remember when it was.

Yes,I remember it well also......this happened on the blast beach at Seaham and Sunderland.
The only difference all these fish were washed ashore alive and kicking...not one did I see caught on rod and line.

These fish are not native to our shores,it seems they come down with the gulfstream but go off course some years, these fish are in a distress state, and I would have thought the last thing they want to do is feed because they are dieing.
With the Xmas fishing opens this week..I don't think these fish iff brought to the scales would be accepted as legal caught fish.some competition sectary's would know for sure.
Also I'm not calling anyone a liar,I'm just telling it as it is...........merry Xmas

By the way,if you can get them fresh they are lovey to eat.picked two out of a rock pool at Roker some years ago still alive...baked in the oven..bootifull !!!

you didnt catch it with your hook u probs seen it wash up and grabbed it. as some one else says hu noes what they talking abiout. they do not feed in our waters... so stop blagging it. orrrrr maybe you were using a string of trebles for the sprat and foul hooked it hahaha. why do you think the opens dont allow them to be weighed in? because a 5lber washes up at somebodys feet and they scoop the lot. and as harry says try baking it in the oven they are 1 of the finest tasting fish you will ever taste.

I'm just reading the sea angler mag and on page 29 there's a report of a guy catching one on rod and line from a Lincolnshire beach using a lug/squid bait.
