only rarely just use line, hook and weight. and onlywhen fishing heavy ground , rest of thetime like most i use crimps beads impact shields several different clips dodgers csacade swivels as well as normal swivels but know lads that use virtual every other type of terminal tackle
but hey that fishing these days lol

dont get me wrong i do use clipped down rigs some are complicated and time consuming to tie up.i do pendulum cast or try to so clipped down rigs make things more streamlined you have to get those xtra few yds lol.anyway few weeks back i wanted to go fishing next time and didnt have much time to build streamlined rigs ,so i said sod it unclipped rigs simple methods off yrs ago so easy to tie and quick.fished two rods and was very suprised distance obtained wth no bait clips and a couple of fish for a change although not cod.
may give this old fashioned approach another go soon.

When on the boat I use a very simple rig... a 6ft length of 60-70lb mono tie a loop in both ends and one in the middle and just pass the loops through the eyes of the lead and the hook..
Trued it several occasions in the rough ground and I've got to say it works perfect. very simple rig and very cost effective

It always makes me laugh when I read in magazines about rigs. You see rigs that Einstein couldn't figure out.
As long as the right bait is where the fish are is the main thing.

If ypu think the sea rigs are over complicated (and I agree sometimes they can be) watch some of the drivel you see on the Carp Angling programmes. Most of that stuff is there to catch the anglers rather than the fish!

2 hook flapper
pulley pennell
single hook with rotten bottom

I reckon that trio - with different sized hooks - would cover any bait fishing from the shore;)

Top north east angler and england international Bob Gascoigne was quoted in Sea angler a while ago as saying " clipped downs for show, flappers for dough "

RossW is spot on. I tend to use a single pulley mostly, then a clipped down single or a 2 hook flapper for flatties. That's all.
