Aye bob mate its not looking good for Sunday's competition mate its going to be hard work again!

cos it goes crap aftermarch all decent cod move off ect but you still get folk saying it fishes all year ect,[yes the odd odd one its a big sea gets caught ]its a load of tripe fishing season ends march for me always has atb plum:)

Its been poor for years I think like. But fishing is all about getting out there and trying. Its hard going most of the time with little to no reward. I personally was a winter fisherman but lost the bug due to not catching nowt and standing hours on end in frezzing temperatures. I jyst like fishing fresh water now for carp wich is great only thing is you have to let the buggers
Go insted of having them for ya supper. : )

mark ,it surely cannot get any worse than the last 2 matches , 125 hours of fishing put in by the lads and only 1 flounder to show, and like i said in origanal post , i KNOW its bad this time of but never this bad, well it can only get better with the crab almost there

i can remember when you could fish north shields ferry landing on a sunday morn there was always a good run of spring codling fresh or frozen crab the bait.
some would say it was the best time of the year to fish.
never bothered with ferry landing myself but used to fish ice house and rubber plant and had good bags april may certainly gone down hill.

fished ice house a few weeks back first time for a while with frozen crab not a touch.

Ice store/fish quay hasn't fished well for the last 2/3 years...

Had a few fish up and around Newbiggin last sat.. biggest was just over 2lb to fresh crab... First time out in a month or so.

Dont know what it used to be like back in the good old days but i'm sure if there was a decent blow and dying sea there would still be a few cod knocking about If people were willing to give it a go.

yeah maybe you are right.

To be fair people are giving it ago and coming back with nowt thats wat this post is about. Its a hobbie at the end of the day pretty dam expensive one at that. If you catch its a bouns and the way fishing is and has been over last few year it really is a bouns to catch somthing. But hey beats sitting in the house

gave up winter fishing two years ago after 40 years due to the lack of decent fish, whats the use of fishing if there are no fish worth catching, just don't see the point, plus at 59 i'm getting to old to be arsed to be honest, still will be out this summer spinning and hoping for that big bass,

I used to get loads back in early 1990's before the kids were born travelled all over the country even down to dungeness & around sw Scotland then about 1995 it seemed to go quiet until 2000 I gave up & started freshwater fishing
Still was gobsmacked with the occasional pollock on the fly rod!
& always fancied a return to sea fishing tried it 5 years ago & couldn't believe how poor it was. Started again in January & to be honest done very well for the times I've been! But the way I look at it now is.......this is my hobby & what I want to do in my spare time if I get a fish that's a bonus.
& when it drops off in the n.east there's some beautiful scenery all over the west coast with some species to catch that make you realise it's not all about catching fish

Have you caught smoothhound or tope from the shore? My first & last hound was a long while ago but the memories are still fresh as ever & if I had the choice of 1 decent double figure smoothie or tope vs a winters cod season with plenty of fish, I'd say bye to the cod!
Get yourself to different places & target different species it's unreal, even 3hours drive to Eyemouth, or 3hours to kirkudbright
If better still a week down in Devon / Cornwall

Were do U plug for the bass around Hartlepool Paul I live in Seaton carew and all ways fancied giving it a go

try the ring of stones the river side of the north gare some good bass have been landed there, or as you walk along the beach to the north gare a couple of hundred meters before you get there you can see water bubbling up out to sea from a outlet pipe fish directly in front of it, had a few schoolies from there on more than one occation

not long after i took up fishing i got told about rubber compny so went over 1day and fished it, well afetr having a few small stuff and was getting ready to go home, chris stringer and another guy came and set up next to me, affter setting up and casting out chris went over to his big wicker basket and promptly threw the remains of 23 filleted fish over the side which he told me he and tony taylor and a few others got them from top of N/S ferry landing at first light that morning on frozen crab this time of the year which was sometime in march i believe, and they done it every year , and so was waiting for ferry to stop and they were going back on for another session

never go the chance to try my self as the following year a bigger and more secure fence ws put up that stopped the fishin because of the mess anglers left behind

ps this is not an excuse to start a mess war just to let people why people not fish ferry landing any more
