Fishy Galore at the Rathouse 19/04/13

I had a great session down the Ratty this morning. I would have gone last night but the winds were pretty strong and the forecast said they would die off by about 11pm so I decided to grab a few hours sleep and head out in the small hours. I arrived there about 1.30am and there was nobody else there so I had the pick of the marks but just set up at the end which was nearest the car :) The wind had dropped off completely and aside from the odd patches of light rain for the first hour or so the conditions were very pleasant indeed. I fished over low water and through first light (which was about 4.30am) and packed up about 7am. Baits used rag, bluey, prawn and isome. Rigs used two hook flappers size 1 , 2 and 4 (I was species hunting not specimen hunting :p ).

I was into fish from the first cast with an eelpout followed by more eelpouts, rocklings, coleys, codling and more. Loads of knocks from both out in the channel and close in. As I got to first light it really picked up and there were loads more of the same and also a canny flounder 30cm and then a new species for me a Long Spined Sea Scorpion which I needed for the NESA species hunt. I jumped up and down and shouted woo hoo for a few minutes. After regaining my composure I fished on landing more of the same and a couple of dabs one of which was a decent size at 31cm. The smaller dab (28cm) was grabbed by a seagull when I chucked it back and flew off with it which looked bizarre like it had a dinner plate in its gob :D Anyway, by the end of the session I had caught eighteen fish, got a point on the NESA Species Hunt and four points in this months WSF Species Hunt which puts me in the lead three points ahead of the rest of them. Happy days.
Final Scores: 5 codling, 4 eelpouts, 4 rockling (all five bearded), 2 dabs, 1 flounder, 1 whiting, 1 LS Sea Scorpion.
All fish were caught on rag except the larger dab which was caught on bluey.

I think I got a bit carried away taking photos lol

Sorry to hear you were ill Pete but good to hear you are off the mark on the WSF Hunt. Plenty time still to get those points :)
