Fixed Spool

Well I've decided to join the fixed spool revolution and just purchased a Penn Surfblaster 8000, Give it a twirl in a couple of day.

I love the fixed spool and braid now I've got it to work. When I first tried it, it done my head in. It's all I use now.

I have just bought a Surfblaster 7000 today, rush of blood to the head I think. Bought it so I have something a bit beefier for Eyemouth just lobbing off the rocks with braid on. Been out for a hour with it with mono and mono leader, very nice. Braid scares the hell out of me on powerful rods, I always think I'm going to lose a finger. Retrieve is very good.

My mate swears by the leather finger thing u pull on your finger but I think its a bit of a fanny on when its cold. He lost his the other day but I found it. I,m looking for the release thing now I have. Was only a tenner. Taped on in front of where your reel seat is-it was dead easy for me to do. You wrap your braid couple of times around the nipple bit (don,t laugh) then when u cast let go of trigger. Will see if I can find one on here and put link on.

If your used to multis you could try the breakaway thumb button. Only 2-3 quid and you release the lead in the same sort of action as taking your thumb off the spool of a multi.

I'll just use a finger stall or whatever they are called, but only for the braid as I've never used braid before.

I use braid on fixed spools with a T1000, and it flies out. I use Korda finger stalls - bought a few when I first started using them and other than getting a bit stinky they are the dogs. Work perfect.

Also bought a Canon release but cannot get away with it.

The braid spool is no good for 50lb braid I find, can't get enough on. I just use the deep spools and put some backing on if required. Wound down as tight as possible.
