Fladen Maxximus Solid Carbon Or Daiwa Kenzaki?

Just looking to purchase a new boat rod and came close to purchasing a Daiwa Kenzaki earlier in the week but after speaking to some lads I work with and also a lad on a recent boat trip there appears to be some mixed opinions on this so any feedback on this rod would be appreciated, also considering a Fladen Maxximus Solid Carbon 7ft which is selling for £84.99 at Whitby Angling. I’ve been using a Greys G-Series and a Sonik SK3 to date so I know either of the rods mentioned will be an improvement.

We've been using Maxximus rods for a few years, a couple of weeks after recommending them we have have snapped 3 in consecutive weeks.

I think Tony (TGW) had some hassle waiting for a rod from Marine megastore.

Hello,
I have a Daiwa Kenzaki and I like it.

In a moment of madness I bought the fladden orange and was suprised at the small reel fitting on it, I had to unscrew the tip a bit to get my reel on it, quite a nice rod though all the same. I used to use it on my kayak but now I leave it up at the caravan for when I go out on the boat up there.

If I had to buy a rod now I'd get the Kenzaki as there are some good deals to be had, only my opinion though.

Regards Ian

Marine Megastore have a horrendous reputation that in my experience is well deserved.

I’ve used a few of the one piece, solid carbon maxximus rods, they are good rods that are light, have a soft action and have taken some abuse so far. Check the rod action before you buy it, even the 20~60lb rated rod is very flexible and much lighter than you’d expect. Still OK for wrecking though.

I have a diawa tdx boat rod which is by far the best I have used intact I will be getting another lol I've had mine 3 years now and its never let me down they are a little pricey but you get what you pay for

I have both and the kenzaki is a much better rod. I have the 20 - 30 got enough grunt for a big fish - but still has good bite detection. You won't be disappointed

At the end of the day I got the rod from Marine Megastore BUT it took three weeks after paying for "express" delivery...so in all I would not recommend buying from them as I suspect they hold very limited stock and instead order reactively as and when an order comes in

The rod itself is a peach and very capable of dealing with decent fish...

...as to the boys on Shady H snapping 3 rods in 3 weeks I hear they snapped at least one of them on porpoise :D
