Anth some people use split shot I\'ve used small leadheads myself ,they both work well ,if you buy a sea float at the tackle dealer it comes with a drilled ball lead , using different baits ,sandeels ,ragworm even squid mostly targetting pollock ,wrasse ,coalies ,mackerel but I\'ve heard of cod taking the bait as well ,if you use a stop knot then you can vary your depth . Hope this helps ,I do tend to fish more like Tony but I\'m getting more and more interested in the lighter side of sea fishing .

Been getting more into spinning and float fishing over the last couple of seasons and it is great fun anth. Have a look at some floaty rigs and have a go at it mate.

Jim.

No idea mate.

If in doubt, tie the bait to a 4/0, stick on 5oz of lead and let fly.

The bugger`ll not float then.

:D :D i like it tony - simplicity is the key !!

when using floats or spinning are you doing that at the same marks as when your chucking a lump of lead out ? i have visions of being tied to the end of blyth pier and left for the seagulls for trying to float fish :D :D

You can float most places but I couldn\'t fancy pulling up a fish on light gear at blyth pier :o Give it a shot at st mary\'s or spin on Whitley pipe in the summer, can get some good mackeral there!!
Was spinning on the pipe to see if owt was there the other night, still a bit early but was catching small coalies, B****Y good fun ;)

Anth, get yourself over to SW scotland, particulrly the Whithorn/Galloway area with your float gear. Use ragworm (big if you can), Mackerel or frozen sandeel and you\'ll have great fun with light gear. One thing though, if you\'re using sandeel after Pollack and a shoal of mackerel come through, give up on the Pollack cos the mackerel won\'t give the Pollack a sniff :)

The only \"Floating Baits\" I have made use of is in Bass fishing off Studland Beach (Yes, the Naturist Beach) just outside of Poole Harbour in Dorset. [Note: I was fully clothed so as not to scare any fish away].

Tackle is: A 8/9 Hardy Trout Fly Rod, floating line and a live Sandeel. (This works even better from the prow of a boat just offshore as well).

Just flick the eel out and let it swim. Bass will take and fight like a good sized Brown Trout. Once again, if there are Mackerel around, dont waste your expensive bait, just put ANY fly on and flyfish for them. Mackerel on single fly is the best fun you wil lhave in ages.
