Yarm,

Behind sainsburys up to the viaduct is free, then there are a few swims past that up until you come to a fence which is private.

The place is hammered, I always struggle there but there are pike present.

I replied to your message buddy, you just need a freshwater rod licence which is £27 a year. Or £3 a day as the renewal is soon.
Remember the rivers close middle March until middle of June.

Are you after catching pike on a lure?

Only 2 free parts I know of Barnard castle and cotherstone I've fished Barnard castle 30 year no pike very few trout these places get flogged to death so no food for pike1970s plenty trout lots of canoes, cotherstone, shallow very Stoney fast water not good fishing flogged to death by caravan site.pike coarse fishing at piercebridge Darlington brown trout do tickets, very deep slow running good fishing

Preston park is a good place about a mile of free fishing, as Jim said a rod licence is all you need,

Other free stretch at Middleton at George, there are pike present. Then there's horseshoe bend and basselton woods, pike are there. And don't rule out Stockton town centre for pike.

Personally the free bits aren't my cup of tea, overfished or too crowded. But worth a shot
