fresh scallops as bait?

I know many people will consider this sacrilegious but i went into sainsburys this affa and there was 1.2 kilos of fresh scallops from the fish counter reduced from £26 to £2.99!
I bought them with the sole intention of using them for fishing bait
Anyone had any luck with these beastys?? they look like caviare for a fish

Do you use them on there own or cocktailed? there massive things, but look quite meaty as though bait thread would cut through the flesh rather than bind them to the hook

Only ever used them on their own myself like mate but can't see why they won't work in a cocktail. Actually fresh scallop can be just put on the hook without tying, but don't whack it to much

Have used scallop frills before up on the moray firth. Was fishing over rough ground and had cod out upto 5lb.. Just used elastic cotton to hook them same as do with mussel..

cheers i have used frills before to make stuffed squid bombs before and they leak out well
These are full fresh scallops only a couple have the red coral on them its all the white meat

the best way to cookem is splash them yagamiester split them and cover them in garlic and send to me

if you have a dive around roker pier and are crafty enough to get them off my hook there all yours, you will have to supply the jager and garlic though

cheers mate, il try them using the more forgiving rods at short range and see how it goes

When I was a young lad my Dad used to hire a dinghy from Lamlash, on Arran. We were always given a bag of scallops as bait included in the hire!! Before the days of eating them obviously!

Always took load of haddock and cod on them. The days of free scallops and haddock and cod in the Clyde are long gone sadly.

Oysters from the Chinese supermarket are a good bait as well. You can get them in kilo blocks for a bout 4 quid.

there excellent mate, think they are about £5.50 for the kilo block though
I stuff squid bodies with them and they leak out excellent when pricked just before casting
I think its a better bait than cart, i have certainly had more success
They are very sloppy to use on there own though
