fresh vs frozen lug

whats everyones view on this, used it (frozen) for the past two years thinking it was the beas knees. only this seaason i've used fresh alot, i find frozen totally pants. my past two sessions when i couldn't get hold of any fresh, iv'e noticed my catch rate go right down to almost nothing when everyone else around me was raking them in. this season i've caught next to nothing on it where-as fresh taking nearly all my fish and hooking up within the first few minutes of it landing. the scent is obviously a big thing, with the frozen giving off next to nothing. think i'll give it a miss from now on like..

Frozen runnydown from the shops are no good, they squeeze all the goodness and juice out of them and youre left with a sack of nothing but skin

If you know how to freeze runny down properly though its deadly

to stretch ya bait out and want a decent bait hoy the frozen up ya snood then add the fresh lug on the bottom i use this option with a pennel rig so bait dont go up the line so 2 hook option the fish wants the frozen it will take top hook some how or if it wants fresh lug it might hook up bottom simples

do they pump runnydown with water or sand before they freeze them because the last batch i had were round not flat as you would assume a gutted worm

good idea cod seeker might have to try that sometime but the way its going using it atm i'd probably be better off giving them the choice of fresh lug or fresh lug

haha dont knock the frozen blacks m8 ive seen them out fish fresh lug , i have found last season razorfish i done well with pinned on the hook with lastic wrap a gud size black or 2 round it with cotton its always pulled me out a slow night with a decent fish

frozen blacks are a great bait.always have a couple of hundred in freezer start of autum.get them sent over fresh/gutted and freeze them in 3,s in cling film.salted some to this year.used in a cocktail with either frozen crab/muscle/razor/squid/bluey or mix of a few.keep a bait freezer stocked up and your set to go anytime without having to go looking for bait

I have had more success for the bigger fish on frozen blacks than fresh worm
Also found flattys go mental for it tipped with a small bit of mackerel
I think its a good all round bait thats very handy to have a few packs of ready in the freezer
Nothing worse than wasting hours searching for bait
fresh lug is defiantly easier to work with and your right about giving off more juices, but i would never write frozen off altogether

The thing I've found to bring out the best in frozen runnydown is to pour boiling water over it! Lay it in a shallow tray, boil up the kettle and pour it over until it's just covered - for about 2-3 minutes if it's frozen and about 30 seconds if you've thawed it out first. You'll see it swell & firm up, then lay it on some newspaper for a few minutes, then wrap in fresh paper just as you would fresh worm. It then looks & feels just like fresh stuff (except it doesn't move!) and it no longer just turns to mush when it's in the water. I was sceptical when first told about it, but tried it and found that it works! Had enough fish on it last winter to convince me that it's not just good for tying into crab & stuff but will catch on it's own - but I'm still just that bit more confident with fresh worm.

I have seen oiled lug for sell too , anyone have thoughts on these ? Or are they just another way to take our cash lol

ive salted some this year and it seems good,use a baiting needle and one salted plus one frozen you get a nice firm bait,chuck a bit muscle or crab on ,makes a great bait,just ordered 500 fresh blacks from lad ive bought off for last 3 years.20 quid for 100 fresh blacks,cant grumble at that.dug sunday night/Monday morning with me on Tuesday.

There was a thread on you tube were they put frozen blacks in. Microwave,they looked ok but divnt let the wife no.bet there was some foy if you got the time wrong,I think it was 30 seconds.

frozen for me.one of my favourate baits,especially on with razor fish,get some nice fish every season with it and handy to keep in for spur of the moment sessions
