are these used only as some use them as a top hook only for a pennel rig or are the used as a bottom hook.also are these hooks best tied to the hook shank ie snelled or are they just no good for our fishing in the north east,i do know they are widly used in america but we are not them.

Ive used the chinu hooks as top pennels John but if theres any chance of you getting snagged dont use em as they are really strong and will not bend and you you will lose your trace/bottom end.

Mustad Demon Fine circle hooks can bend out if stuck. Wouldn't go any bigger than 6/0 for top pennel though.
Just slide on snood and wrap snood around a couple of times to keep it in place.
