I find it quite interesting that codling are getting caught as far up the Tyne as the Tyne Bridge, so purely out of curiosity can anyone tell me how far up the Tyne they have actualy caught a codling (past the Tyne Bridge).

Might be interesting if someone organised a competition on these lines. ie : who-ever catches a legal size codling the furthest up the river is the winner.

What do other people think ?

I was just talking to my mate about that tonight, we are going to work our way up the Tyne to see how far they are going up. Just had a 5hr session at Jarrow police launch and never got a thing, just crabs.

Had codling as far up as the British Airways carpark a few years ago, also had a bass from there last year.

I was talking to a lad fishing whilst on a lunch break from my first aid course at the Ambulance Service off Scotswood Road,he had'nt caught anything that day but said he had plenty of Codling from there during darkness, this was two years and i recall him saying that there was complaints about the mess etc from fishermen

I have spoken to kids fishing derwent haugh pier/jetty/marina/wreck/sh*thole (that wooden thing by the sea scouts place)who have told me they have caught cod but no indication of size.

Tyne Codlings.

Tyne Codlings.

Hello all,
I've seen quite a few codling caught at the Redheugh bridge area but I've had some good bags at the Felling shore, (Friars Goose), personally I've never had a fish over 5lbs from there, 1 1/2lbs to 2 1/2lbs is the norm.
Regards, Ian.

I had a couple decent sized Cod on friday nite as far up as Walker Road...St Anthony's Fish Bar to be precise. Cracking little spot.
