Couldn't think of anywhere to go yesterday with flat seas and little tides so ended up on the River down by the stadium. First time I have fished there. Stuck it out with the big rod mid river and plenty of rattles from little tommys. Caught a few up to half a pound or so and also had a decent flounder which gave a cracking pull down and drop back. I thought that was the fish I was after.

I guess it would have been better on the flood but only had a few hours late afternoon after work. Still enjoyed getting out.

Does that area ever produce codling ?

I normally fish further up river where the tuxedo used to be but since it left there don't seem to be many decent keepers in the river I will be having a chuck tonight to see if I can stop the run of blanks 3 in a row:mad:

managed 3 sized from up that way last night my mate got 1 and the bloke next to us had 3 sized and we all put a load undersized back

Well done mate, I reckon I left just when I should have been starting, about 19:00. Do you use small hooks and little baits up there or standard codling stuff ?

Bog standard river stuff mate... I tend to use 1/0 and find it will catch pretty much anything from the smaller stuff to the odd bigger fish that kicks about. Biggest I have had was around 3.5lb from the river a few years back at Hebburn marina and that was on a 1/0.
