Hi Everyone. Just to let you all know that the Get Hooked at Strawberry Fields Pond (Seaton Lane, opposite Sharpley Springs) will be open as of next Monday (11th April 2011). The only rules you need to know for now are there are no boilies to be used, ground bait by feeder only, carp safe nets and all fish to be netted, barbless hooks and tickets must be bought from Massive Attack prior to fishing (£5 per person or £7 for parent and child). Only completed pegs to be used for now as pathways and some pegs still to be finished and groundwork could be going on whilst fishing. Also, keep nets will not be allowed. We all know it's great to see how much you've caught throughout the day but this is purely for the welfare of the fish. Please feel free to email me on [email protected] or you can follow our Facebook page by liking it and all updates will automatically show up on your own pages.

This is somewhere I have never fished but has cropped up a few times and we have struggled to get info. Is there a website? Also what sort of fishing are we to expect?

Pity it's the 11th as I'm thinking of heading to woodlands the 10th.

There's a variety of coarse fish in there Jim. We've got a facebook page which we'll be updating as people fish it (Welcome to Facebook - Log In, Sign Up or Learn More) if you have facebook you just go to the page and like it. You will then receive all updates on your own facebook page. It's been rebuilt (still ongoing though) and restocked and we'll be running many of our sessions for the young people through my Get Hooked on Fishng Project from there but it is also open to the public for day tickets which will help to keep the project running. It's a lovely little secluded place which will keep you well busy.

Agree with all thats been written, as far as a fun coarse fishery go's, they dont come much better.
I have had some epic days up there with upwards of 50 fish out, There is a lot of small carp 2-3lb, but i have had them up to 6lb and i know of a few people that have had bigger fish.

This is true Falcone. You can tell by the size of the lake there's not going to be loads of doubles jumping on your line but if you want a busy day in a quiet pituresque setting with variety fishing then the lake is the place to be

There are not many of the bigger fish left in lake!

Massive attack is on the same site almost. When you turn off the road instead of taking a tight right into the carpark you just follow the path round and you're at massive attack. True Terry, most of the bigger fish were lost in that terrible winter 09/10 which was a huge shame but we've stocked loads of smaller fish so hopefully all will still be kept busy

been a sea fisherman for many a year but would like to try fresh water is this suitable for a novice and is there any tackle for sale

So what fish have been stocked into the lake then? I thought that all the fish died during last winter so the only fish that are in the lake are the ones that you stocked? Is this correct?

There also many other fish in lake other than the fish the Environment Agency put in as they did not all die.
The E.A only put tench and crucian carp into the lake, all other species were fish that did not die despite what some would have you believe.
I know there are skimmer bream, roach, gudgeon, rudd, mirror carp, common carp and eide.

I know for a certain fact mate that there was roach and bream stocked the same day that carp and tench went in, a total of 4200 fish as opposed to the advertised 2200 that the EA reported. I didnt know there was any eide in so thats a bonus if any have survived plus whatever fry managed to escape the harsh weather, time will tell i think once its opened to see exactly what is on offer.

There are fish that survived the winter which include carp, bream, gudgeon, rudd. I have not seen any fish over a few pound but I know a huge amount of fish died last winter. I'm sure you already know there are other fish wich were still left in there Richard as noone that I know of has said that all the fish died. You can pm me or ring me and we can chat if you have any other questions you might want answered and I will will answer them as much as I can to my knowledge.

Simon it is a sport which novices can do as is all types of fishing but as fish welfare is of upmost importance it is essential that you use the correct gear (ie carp safe landing net, landing mat, barbless hooks, non toxic baits, correct hook lengths etc). If you're wanting to give it a try you can give me a ring and I can advise you in a bit more detail.

Simon i will be up there on wednesday morning about 11, if you have time mate pop up and i will give you some pointers and let you use the gear needed. Cant be any fairer than that if it helps you a little. ;)

sorry will be at work wednesday i ventured up on friday and spoke to a very helpfull darren before ending up at aldin grange for a very enjoyable afternoon with fish upto 1.5 lbs i have certainly got the bug, better than sitting on a cold beach catching nowt

best of luck anyone fishing on opening day, should get plenty of bites targeting the silver fish, its a great little venue and ideal to learn the youngsters the correct basics of coarse fishing ....

Just to update you all. There's been some busy folk fishing the last couple of days especially the groups we've had out. Lots of fish including roach, rudd, gudgeon, carp and bream. This warm weather is certainly making them hungry.
