Glorious Saturday, but still blanked!

With no reports of mackerel being caught in the Clyde we decided against the one and a half hour journey to and from Tighnabruaich, as we would be stranded there for eight hours between buses.

So back to you know where. Even though there had been no catch reports we were hopeful after 5 days of hot sunny weather. Arrived there and it was positively heaving with tour buses and a cruise boat.

From a fortnight previously we knew it was leaving in 30 mins so we got tackled up. Having been unimpressed with my 8ft Shimano rod the previous trip I had now got myself a Abu Devilspin 9ft and was much happier with it.

The water was extremely green close in, but there was Launce around the pier.

Another good sign was a pair of Gannets and porpoises a plenty.

Could have sworn I captured them!? :red:

Anyway with high tide just an hour away, Gannets, Porpoises and Launce we were confident. Weather was roasting, Lynn had to put her sandals back on as the wooden pier was too hot for her bare feet, at midday! We had company straight from the off.

During the four hours we were there eighteen people came and went. As the fishing was crap, most groups only lasted about 30 mins. Never seen it so busy. Had the Mackerel been showing it would have been a nightmare as the pier can only take about eight anglers comfortably. Note to self - stop posting pretty pictures of Blairmore on the Scottish section of Shoreangler!

So a glorious day weather wise, but no fish for Lynn and I.

A Launce was caught by a young boy and a 6 inch Pollock by a couple of lads who had travelled from Edinburgh!! About 90 miles each way and a £30 car ferry journey. Mad or what? Actually nice to see a Pollock caught, although only 6 inches, it the first one I have seen in four years from there.

Will these blooming Mackerel ever show up!?

Some more lovely pictures Mark, looks a smashing part of the world there. It's getting embarrassing now you still posting in catch reports. You should get your own section!:D

If it makes you feel any better I fished for 4 hours on South Shields pier today and totally blanked. First time for ages for me. Weather was glorious though, loads of red heads and arms about, Ouch!

I delved into the rucksack for the sun lotion to find that rat bag Lynn had packed the shimmer bottle, so I had glitter all over me the whole day! Very embarrassing in the pub!

Unlucky Mark, but what better surroundings to blank in :).....not long now for your Whitby trip.....:)

I know Chris. Travel down 3 weeks on Monday and 1st trip on the Wednesday on the big Cat, Trot On II. Cannot wait, especially having just read all these brilliant boat reports today.

took my 3 yr old and 6yr old to blyth beach today mark and we all blanked aswell mate. It was the younguns first time fishing so was disappointed for him but he thoroughly enjoyed it and they found a palm size flatty in a nearby pool so they counted that as a catch lol. Great day to be out tho i was really proud of them that they werent bothered in the slightest with the blank ;)

Ah the innocence of youth mate, sounds like you had a great day. Once they get a bit older the blanks will drive them nuts! :)
