Going on a trip to the west coast of Scotland, near the Mull of Galloway. Advice?

Hi all

Going on a trip at the end of the month for four days and plannig on doing a lot of fishing . Not really targeting any species just FISH!. I'm going to take a a spinning rod and my beach caster so do you have any tips, good locations? Not sure whether to get some spinners and lures or take daylights and what baits to use or not use. This is quite adventurous for me, not normally leaving the Tyne to fish.

We are staying at Burrowhead Holiday Village if people no of it.

Any advise?

this mark is awsome only on a flat sea tho ,species are thorn back ray, pollock, gurnards, mackrel,cod and dogies . you fish too the left of the two beaches off the rocks it is a bit of a climb but its worth it.

go into ardweel fishing shop next to drummore and ask the bloke about some spots he will show u on his map the hot spots

I've been where your staying twice with the shiels club mate. Its a canny place and so is the fishing. If your spinning and float-fishing, many species are available to you, from coalies, pollock, wrasse and many types of mini species.

If you bottom/bait fishing, the dogfish are one hell of a neucence... Once you catch one thats it for the day, you'll have a whole 'pack' of them around your hookbait, but at least they will provide you with canny sport.

I would be prepared to lose gear to as it can be very snaggy there at certain times of the tide, that why (also a small tip for ya) i use gripleads with really soft wires, they stay firm to the bottom and when snagged the wires just ben out.

Also as another member said, stranraer is a good shot, but its quite a way further up the coast from there bud.

If I'm not wrong, Burrowhead Holiday village is 2mins from the Isle of Whithorn?
Its very rocky and a little bit of an obstacle to get to the water at some places, but if you stand with your back to the row of holiday bungalows, and head down toward the rocks, keeping the old toilet block to your right, you'll find a track leading down to waters edge via a few rocks.
Isle of Whithorn harbour is supposed to be very good too.
