Spent the day on South Shields pier today from 9.30 to 5.30. Started off at the 45 mark looking for plaice, the sea looked a bit lumpy but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway. I loaded up a pulley wishbone with two ragworm and bang, straight into a fish, not a plaice but a decent size codling which I kept for my supper.
The fish were steady all day, codlings and coalies but no plaice
. One of the coalies was sized but I'm not fussed on it so it went back. The fish were undersized but not the tiddlers I've been getting lately so it was canny sport. Tried down the first gate area later on and had a go with the float but nothing doing.
A great day weather wise once that chilly wind dropped, even saw a submarine come in between the piers which is a first for me. all in all a good Friday
Some pics from today.
