Just bought one today 16ft version, hope i can handle it. Any of you lads got one? what they like and whats the best way to cast them? Im going to use an Abu 6500 ct Mag Elite with it, is this a good reel for this rod, also what lb line should i be using on the Abu Mag with the Triplex, i will be using a 60lb shock leader and just using it on the beach where it\'s supposed to be used \"I think\"
I bought it hopefully to help me get a little more distance, but having talked to a few lads they said it was to big for me, im 5ft 5\" hope i have not wasted more money. Any help would be great.
Rob Adair i know you have one, how are you getting on with your\'s mate.

15 lb line and with most rods that size a good over head thump should be ok for u :D

long rods are being introduced from the continent as over in the sun they use light line and fixed spools yet get good distances to catch the 1\" fish they eat

I\'m very interested to see how you get on with it m8, I think sixfoot\'s got a similar sized rod as well (aye give over), if anyone else has what are your opinions? What\'s the action like on it roybert? Is it pretty much a uk beachcaster with extra feet or something continental and strange? I\'d imagine the reel choices wouldn\'t be that different if it was your average 13 and a bit foot rod.

Havent got a clue mate, just seem to remember someone some where saying it should be a good rod for getting extra distance, It\'s 16ft long nearly 3 times bigger than me :(
Just hope it works for me in the more distance department, will be giving it a shot the weekend on the beach weather permitting, hope i get a few tips on how to use it from the lads, just to help me out a little.
Forgot to ask what weight sinkers would be best, i know it\'s rated 6oz but it may or may not work better with less.

Not knowing your crack roy :o If you\'re after extra distance have you tried any lessons of a proper good caster?

I\'m waitin for someone to bring out a 565 yard Cod Pole.

Could fish next to the volante without having to stand next to jeffroi

Roybert - is it a two piece rod - and if so what sizes are the two bits ?

Only it might be a bugger to get in the car

Rob Adair i know you have one, how are you getting on with your\'s mate.
Our kids got a shakespeare k2 rod 18\' long, uses it with a fixed spool, manages to get good distances with it from the beach, a bit futher than me, but he seems to cast well over where the bass are feeding, LOL.

more than many of us have done mate, sorry for attempting to teach you how to suck eggs. If you don\'t mind me asking \"how far can you cast with a 13 odder?\"
Best cast ever was if i remember rightly 187yds, but that was with quite a strong wind behide me, unbaited of course. Would be quite happy to cast 90 to 100 baited, well happy.

Thank\'s Davy bit sick now i was wrong about your boy having a triplex, was looking forward to some info on how best to cast it. Still he can throw at bit info on how to use a long rod my way. Met your brother Steve a couple of weeks go, came to my house to buy some shooting gear cracking lad, give him my regards next time ya see him.

Cheers Roy

Aye you do need help m8 :D

I know many times people suggest that distance isn\'t that important, I agree on many marks it\'s true. The ability to choose wether your going to drop it 20 /30 yards out or blast it to the 200yard + mark must increase your chances. One lad last year was getting great bags while others were blanking, and doing well in a few comps, the usual questions were posed, but it turns out he was putting a bait way beyond your average angler and reaching fish no-one else could.

As Charlie says I\'ve got one as well ,only used it twice mind ,smae reel as you Roybert ,casts like a dream ,6oz lead big bait ,no bother at all, getting some great distances, love the rod.

hi m8 i have a triplex and 2 be honest for the price they are not value \' they are good fun in total carm conditions and cast along way but a bit of wind and they are very unstable and make bite detection impossible \' after using mine with a 7ht for most of the time i struggled handling it and now i use it with a long cast fixed spool which is what works better with a 16ft rod...

Got to agree with most things that have been said so far.

I got a Shakespeare K2 LDC Extreme 18ft beachcaster and a Shakespeare K2 Powerplay long cast fixed spool reel earlier this year in the thinking that it would give me an edge being able to blast one out to the horizon.

It\'s a fantastic piece of kit, light as a feather, superb finish and effortlessly blasts a bait out further than I have ever done before. However, I don\'t think I\'ve caught any more fish with it than I would usually catch with my 14ft rod, slosh reel and 30lb line.

It may have it\'s uses in some parts of the country, but putting a bait where the fish are is much more important, and that means knowledge and experience, something an extra 4ft of rod doesn\'t buy you.
