Growler's Replacement Ordrered

After a trip to the Southampton boat show and a look at a load of other boats during the last couple of years me and Micky have plumped for a Quicksilver Pilothouse 640 with a 115 HP Mariner four stroke on the back.
We ordered her today and she is due for delivery on March the 1st next year, Growler is off the other way next week in part ex.
The new boat is going to be treated to a coppercoat antifouling before we put her in next year and hopefuly some new fangle all singing and dancing electrics! Namely a huge screen furuno sounder and good sized plotter! Any advice on the larger units will be greatfuly received as we have no experience of them and just know what we picked up at the boat show.
After looking at all boats we couldn't get away from the quicksilver as price wise nothing comes close.
It will more than likely be a move to Royal Quays as well due to the petrol pump, unrestricted access and better harbour entrance.
The wrecks south of Amble are only 17 miles from the Tyne though so not too far!!!;)
Any guidance from the Tyne flotilla boys will also be greatfuly received as we are starting over again after just really learning Amble correctly and no-where near fully! The marks and wrecks off the Tyne will make for an interesting and exciting season next year! Can't wait!:):):):)

Great stuff Graham :) , I'm sure you and Micky will be happy with a 640 , they seem to have everything a fishing boat needs ;)

Big Grolwer CQIV? We haven't chose the name yet!

Was that you heading in yesterday Ray around four-ish?
Micky had a few on Saturday morning but no record breakers. Loads of whiting and good sized poddlers though.

I can't wait for the delivery date! The best thing in my opinion though is no more North Sea spray induced ice cream headaches! :)

Nice one lads, I bet next season cannot come quick enough for you. Get yourself onto pontoon A or B at the RQ, it’s full of fishing boats with room for one or two more.

I use a Garmin plotter, not the touchscreen, and definitely recommend it, you can add radar, AIS, high def fish finder etc.. Just don’t get carried away and buy one before the boat arrives and you’ve had a chance to measure up.

We have got Garmin gear on Growler at the minute and it's great stuff Kevin. The touchscreen does baffle me as to how it would work when your fingers are covered in scales and guts!
The only time the Garmin sounder felt out of it's depth(no pun intended!) was when trying to find deeper water wrecks, the sounder just didn't have the same pulse strength and hardly any detail was shown of the structure and hence why we are considering a furuno/koden etc sounder but more than likely sticking with the garmin gear for the plotter/plotters.
The dealer where we are buying from said we can work on her under cover no problems when fitting the electrics and I know what you mean you want everything in the right place the first time so no unsightly holes are there that need filling!
Thats the next job on the list to book the lift in at Royal Quays so we will request the berths mentioned! See you's next season.

Great to hear Graham/Micky, It's gonna seem a long winter till March. Santa's certainly come early.:D Looked at them on Ebay, fantastic looking boat, yous must be chuffed to bits,:):)

Hi Graham , yes it was probably me heading in about 4pm , I wasn't fishing though , I just took the boat for a run up to the top of Alnmouth bay and back as she had sat for a while. I've got the garmin touch screen , it's brilliant , anyone who says you can't use it when the sea is choppy or when you are covered in fish poop hasn't tried ............. you can ;)
Some say what about all the fish poop on the screen , I say , rather on the screen which wipes off easily than in the back of buttons :D
As for using it under way . it's so simple , I rest the palm of my hand on the screen surround to steady my hand and press away to my hearts content :D
No different to trying to press the right button when underway ;)
The sounder picks those deep wrecks up fine , a little less detail as the screen has to show 300 ft of water above them , so obviously they show up in on a smaller scale , but they are well enough defined to use for fishing.
Anyway , never mind the chartplotter and fishfinder , the burning question on everybodys lips is ....... Are you going to get a new tile adhesive fish bucket , or stick with the lucky one :D I've been doing some tiling today , so there a coupe of buckets available , complete with scrapings of left over adhesive if you fancy a new one ;):D
Good luck with the new boat :)

Amble wrecks

Amble wrecks

Hi Graham, I am new to fishing from Amble and busy learning the area. Seeing as you are moving away, would you fancy sharing the marks for the good wrecks around Amble? I've been out to a few on my plotter but some are small and not worth the petrol used to get there. My boat is the reiver sportsman "The Jester" bought from Chris with the 75 merc on so quite prepared to cover the miles if it was worthwhile. If happy to share please email me at [email protected] - ps good luck next year thats a a cracking boat you've bought.

Hi Graham

Congrats on the new boat

one thing to check just for safety is that where the Live bait well is that the sea cock is fitted!

Electrics i put on mine were

garmin 4008 plotter
Lowrance hds 5 sounder fishfinder
Standard Horizon GX2100E DSC Radio with AIS
Azimuth Electronic compass
Echomax Radar reflector

all this lot links together and the plotter is used whilst the radar is running and the ais so just by looking at one screen you can see all other vessels and also the large ones as well

it works a treat and when i bought my plotter they were doing the radome freebie maybe some left now
