Hall beach 5 jan

Decided on a run out to the Hall last night to fish 2 up 1 down. Conditions looked pretty decent but the strong southerly winds made it hard to stand up at times never mind fish!

Only had frozen blacks and mussel and bites were few and far between. A few knocks perhaps from crabs although it was hard to tell in the gales.

Anyway this flounder saved the blank for me. I saw a few small whiting caught by the lads up on the Prom who were really getting buffeted by the wind.

Thanks lads, determined to catch a proper cod this year so trying to spend as much time as I can with a bait in the water. I have had 26 size this autumn/winter now and nothing over 3lb even hooked! But will stick at it.

Pretty little Flounder, well done for braving that weather.

I'd like to say the cod will come but I've been fishing for nearly 30 years and my best is still only 4 1/2lb. Mind you I did spend 20 years of that time fishing the cod desert also known as the Solent...

seems to have been the norm this side of the tyne to be honest mate - my best of the season (so far) was 5.4lb from roker of all places the other week, but other than that 2.8lb has been the biggest for most of this season. Any amount of sized fish, just not many bigger. hopefully some better ones over the next month or so before they bugger off to spawn.

Hard luck m8 but you braved it. I was on middleton Pier same day and impossible to see bites, which to me is 70% of the fun. Had 2 Dabs & mate had 2 small Coaleys. Sacked it after 3 Hours.
