Fished last 2 hours of the flood last night. Started just south of the ramp but had to squeeze in on the prom as the water got too high. Sea looked great and there was a real sense of anticipation among the lads lining the prom but it didn't fish as expected.
At first I couldn't hold with a standard "bomb shaped" 6 oz gripper but many thanks to the lad who gave me one of his specials, 5 1/4 oz with a flat top and bent wires which, as he put it "works like an anchor". Another lesson learned. I tried to find him to return the lead when I left but he had gone.
Anyway I started with some great rag I got from Pips in Hartlepool but no bites and no-one catching. Dug out some frozen blacks which were way past their best and loaded up with 2 monsters tipped off with mussel which resulted in a small codling, same again next chuck and a decent whitey which had a carrier bag wrapped round it, I thought that was a better fish. never saw another fish caught and the prom emptied just after high tide.
Enjoyable short session and some good craic.

What a beauty, would be a pleasure to see it never mind catch it. I bet that took some handballing up ? Getting back to sinker shape is it important to use the right type ? The bomb shaped grip leads I had seemed to be rolling around, when I put this dumpy flat top job on it held solid.

I find the namix ones are rubbish , I use uk hooks or dca wire drags and they hold well , I spread out the wires also before chucking out .
