Heaviest Bag vs Heaviest Fish in Comp's

a heaviest bag comp
suits the good angler
where as a heaviest fish comp is a lottery realy

only my thoughts like

Agree with sless, but in a heaviest bag comp how many smallish fish get binned after the weigh in. 90% of us on here complain about commercial boats but we must put our own house in order first. Not having a go at anyone inperticular just a general moan/rant

Had this conversation when out on thursday night...

I've decried the heaviest bag thing before, because it does seem wasteful - especially in an open with (possibly) hundreds of Anglers taking part.

Saying that though, the heaviest fish scenario seemingly penalises the lad/lass who hits the jackpot and manages to put themself among the action and bag a load of fish.

Any comp' is fished to NFSA guidelines when it comes to fish size so all fish are "legal"...most in size fish I've caught recently have been kept and they certainly don't go to waste...I either keep them for myself or there's a host of people at my work who will happily take them off me.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why I asked the question...I want to know what peoples general feelings are before deciding whether the Freindly Match is one or the other ;)...at the moment though I'm erring towards heaviest bag - and like I said, there'd certainly be no waste ;):D

cheers for the input lads - keep it coming :)

Tony if you have a heaviest bag comp you will have to make sure every fish weighed in are size which means measuring all the fish!!! hard work if everyone weighs in small stuff mate and you can bet a lot of them will be borderline and could result in argument .. heaviest fish eliminates that and gives everyone a better chance at taking the prize..

don't want arguments or hassle...s'posed to be for the craic :) with the option of joining in the cash match if people want to - cheers Paul, points noted ;):)

I must admit i think heaviest bag is best idea. Like you say you might have a great night with 10+ fish all around 3-4lb and get pipped by a guy or girl with 1 fish for 4lb 1oz. I do agree that it would be a bit of hassle measuring them but still worth it imo. The fish would never go to waste with Tony around;):D

Heaviest bag comp for me,you could catch 10 fish and your 10th fish could be the heaviest fish however you've probably killed the other 9,couple options could be to increase the minimum Whiting size or have a "no whiting" rule or Codling only comp, only problem is most people go by the NFSA min size rule for comps so you would have to clearly state if you make any personal amendments to the rules on sizes or if you wanted to ommit certain species

heavisest fish v heavisest bag

heavisest fish v heavisest bag

Simple.....The reason most open comps go for single heavisest fish is to stop cheating.
It goes on and has gone on for years and still does.
As soon as big money is put up along comes the cheats, its so easy for these scumbags to bag together with there mates one bag to the scales.

I divvent kna...I'm just a young pretender...

there's arguments for and against and I can understand both - prob is that tonight I've had a skinful and I can't think straight

I just want everyone to have fun, be merry and have a good craic...technicalities of weights and sizes etc should be for the ones who care too much and those who want to cheat

why do people cheat? it's sh*te - they're only cheating themselves!?

also why are there only so many "contributors" to this site:question::exclam:...there are are loads that seemingly only surf for info and never contribute...get your finger out you selfish b*******ds and give something to this site other than gleaning for your own selfish gain...t***ts

yes - I'm drunk - but it's true...there's loads of registered members as well as "guests" who log on and give f***k all to this site...it annoys me to say the least

if any Mods/Jim disagree please PM me and I shall review my comments in the morning

night all

Tony

I apologise for being a ba###rd and a t##t i know see the error of my ways, however i would advise fluoxetine 20mg a day it will help keep you calm when the heat is on or i hear cherry knowles in ryhope does an anonymous weekly session for stress.

id say heaviest fish wins all ... optional pool for heaviest bag @ £2 a man/

£5 to fish comp say £2.50 goes to r n l i from each entry for heaviest fish
opptional pools for heviest bag and heviest double bag @
£2a man for single bag/£2 for double bag per pair
pairs and bag payed out as 1st/2nd/3rd at 60%/30%/10%

you day put up the whiting size
if someone come back with say 15 size whitings
he will get slagged off
but if someone brought back say 15 size cod
he would be praised

whats the difference if they are both in size

Drunken rantings aside :rolleyes::red:...

If you were to put the minimum size of Cod and Whiting up to 40cm - you'd be weighing 1lb+ fish. These sizes would at least fall in the "acceptable" bracket of keeping the fish...

Heaviest bag with optional pools for teams and heaviest fish

Use measure and realease converted to points and weight.

You can decide to try for small or big fish

Samf use these rules in a lot of comps and it works.

Any fish over 20cm is size for measuring. Better than catching 34.5 cm coalies or codlings all day and them not to be counted.

Lot more skill in catching lots of fish than a "lucky" big one.

I don't agree with bait bans either, if someone wants to travel 200 miles for whites, wade through thick mud for crab then good luck to them they deserve to get some reward for their effort.

Measure and release may be a problem for night time and roving type comps but for safety reasons we should all fish together anyway. Not perched on some rock by yourself with your light switched off in case someone see's you. What would happen if you fell and broke a leg or got washed in??

Heaviest fish matches have their place but why not just put all the tenners in a bucket and at the end draw someones name out of the hat, after all it is a bit of a lottery. You can influence the size of fish you catch by fishing certain areas with certain baits but certainly can't say catching a big fish is all down to skill.

At the end of the day though we go fishing to catch fish be they small or large, and fish competitions to compete against each other.

Well think this post has gone abit off the point but here goes :-

How does writing something like this help Nesa ? Sound like a drunken chav to me

Also if you act like this when drunk then i would leave the drinking to adults and maybe post only when you havent been drinking.
talking of making a contribute try not sitting with this months sea angler open infront of you, to make posts i mean 6.30 post per day. Maybe you need to find more interests other than one forum.

Rant Over

Have to agree with Jaguar.
thought the idea was to have a meet prior to the NvS match.
