Back down to my usual spot in Hebburn in the early hours of this morning to fish three up and half an hour down. Baits used rag and bluey. I had caught a decent codling here on Saturday (42cm) using bluey so was hoping to do the same today. There was a lot of weed about and the crabs were stripping the baits in seconds but at least it kept me busy with all the quick changes I ended up catching one codling and one whiting both sized and a wriggly snotty eel. All fish caught on rag today.
Canny session Mike. I remember fishing there one night and all of the lights you can see in your photo went out at once right down the North side of the river. They came back on after about 10 minutes but it was eerily dark and quiet when they were off.

Ah ha! I could hear you talking over there and could see your torches going up the cranes it looks a bit scary up there lol. Your work should be a great place to fish i have seen the dredger going up and down along the front recently so it should be deep there and clean ground close in. You may do well dropping your bait short rather than casting out. The fishing is like anywhere else sometimes they are there sometimes they are not but codling to a couple of pound can turn up. I have heard of bigger ones but not had one myself.
James yes its safe there when i go which is always well after midnight. Its safe during the day too i sometimes take the bairn down. There may be the odd teenager hanging around on an evening, and at night you get couples having it off in their cars at the third car park so best not to park there lol. The first two car parks are fine and you can fish next to your car. If you want to fish the jetty at the end park in the houses next to the football ground and walk down the bank its a safer place to leave your car. Mind ive never seen any bother.
I can't comment on daylight as I only ever fish there at night but public transport is easy. You can either get the metro to Hebburn then walk down the hill to the marina (down Prince Consort Road) or you can get the bus to Hebburn Football ground then walk over the pedestrian crossing on the metro line which takes you down to the "Grassy Bank" mark which is bang in the middle between the stone jetty and the second car park.
Nice report and pics brings back memories of fishing down there when I was a kid and lived in Hebburn. We used to fish there quite a bit and a few other marks around there like the mesh along from the cadets (good place for flatty's) the marina the grassy and the end jetty. We had some decent codling and whiting off the end jetty in winter.
