I am new to the forum so hi all. I am planning on fishing at Hebburn mariner for the first time this week, I just need a little advice before I go, what is the best tide to fish at this venue? I was taught when I as younger that the Tyne fishes better at low water and the flood but I don't want to go there and find 4ft of water and lots of thick black muddy. What is the best bait this time of year for this venue? I have been doing a lot of fishing at the walk way but with so many small fish destroying the bait I fancy a change of venue.

As a general rule mate, fish a flooding tide in the river and you wont go far wrong. Low water up to high. Worm, crab and fish baits for the river at this time of year.

I used to fish Hebburn Marina a lot as a youngster.... I only live 5mins away now but don't get down much anymore. Try fishing at the grassbank.... if you head along past the boat moorings you will find a large grassed area as the road rises up a small hill.... either that or follow the road along to where it gets blocked off by a few blocks across the road. follow the road down and you will find an area where you can fish.... lots of areas to catch mate so I look forward to your catch reports!

a hour b4 low water then a couple up but with it being making tides and hebburn marina being narrow the tide will rage through you could then move along to the grassy bank fishing with a gripper of course or park your car at the top of the bank in 1 of the parking bays walk through the barrier and walk all the way down and up on to the concrete jetty casting up the river with a plane lead take the bait to the fish rather than anchoring it i,ve had quite a few fish from that exact spot 3 of which where 6 1/2 lbs and 2 of just over 5lbs not all in the 1 session though best of luck regards stan

Hi Lads and Lasses. Thanx for all the advice, is that grass bank where the crabb tires are? Is that concrete jetty got access to a powers wheel chair? I read on another form that the wooden jettys have been restored can you fish on them?

If your in a wheel chair I wouldnt fish the grass bank or the concrete jetty mate, the wooden jetty has a ramp and ive had some canny fish from the right hand corner, theres disabled parking there mate so you can more or less fish from the car. Good luck.

HI all thanx for the reply and advice it's been priceless. I will let you if I catch out, it can't be any worse than walkway is fishing, when the fish are so small that you can't even get one that's worth catching and there are destroying my lovely fresh peeler crab it's very frustrating. Hi mate, if you decide to fish the marina, the second car park is an easy shot you can fish right next to the car and rest your rod on the fence. Fish from about mid tide up to HW here. Don't fish close to low tide as the stathes along the side are exposed and go out about ten feet or so you can have trouble getting your gear back over them. Bluey has been working well for me there lately, also ragworm.

Hi Thunderpants and thanx for the advice, it amazing really you can fish one end at low water to the flood and the second car park is a high water shot, I think next Friday is a high water a twelve o'clock ish so I will try the second car park then. So if I go too the grass bank where the crab tires are and then walk down till I find the next car park? I guess this is another coddling shot?

Hi all I went to Hepburn mariner today and I drew a blank I had a few knocks at the start of the session but that quickly died out. I think I had the wrong bait I was using rag and bluey. I had more knocks on the bluey, as soon as I put only rag not even a sniff. Are well the weather was cracking and it's better than sitting in the house. The bites I got more enquiries rather than takes, I think crab would have given me the edge, if only I could get some crab, England has more chance in winning the world cup than I do of getting some crab before its all sold out and that's saying something.

Try Moonfleet in Gateshead they have fridges full of crab

It could be your hooks are too big if you are getting knocks but the fish are not hooking up. Try using a smaller size hook as there are lots of small fish around Hebburn. You will get plenty of sport on a size 1 or 2.

Hi Thunderpants I was using a 1/0 size hook, I am going back to Hebburn mariner on a bank holiday Monday it will be a high water next time so I will take your advice on the smaller hook. I am off too shields pier on Friday going plaice hunting which will be fun. I am also planning on taking a trip to churches bank soon as well, my best mate has just taken up sea fishing so I am trying to find him venues where there is little snags because his distance is not there yet but it will come, I am still trying to beat my own plaice record which is 5lb which I caught off south shields small beach back in 2000. Man I miss beach fishing but I have had a few plaice at 3lb but I have never had one close to my best yet but there is still time.

I find church bank quite snaggy near to the wall though I think if you walk a bit further along it's better. It's not somewhere I fish much. Hebburn is ok just snaggy close in where the stathes are. A good place to take a beginner is Brighams in Shields there are no snags at all there and plenty of sport with the small fish.

Hi mate once again I forgot about that place and it's Avery good choice. Thunderpants do you know if those old docks in north shields open yet to us fishermen?

I fished the 2nd car park on Friday afternoon, 2 dabs on rag and macky, not great but not a blank, caught them both just approaching the high tide casting just out past the buoy line.
Suited me fine as i could fish straight out of the car and just fancied a short lazy session.
2 other fellas there before me blanked and went home well before the high tide.

I think you mean Smiths Docks? It's not officially open to fishing but there is a hole in the fence so you can get on if you want to.

HI Mate that's it how big is the hole in the fence? How is it fishing there do you know? I fished there years ago before the dock was transformed I used to pay the security guard £20 for letting us on the dock and it was good fishing back then, I used to fish behind the old rubber factory as well before certain idiots with cheap cider starting having fires in the alcoves in the wall that was end of that good shot now it's closed off.
