I'm no expert but don't see why you wouldn't go sea fishing in a 16 footer providing conditions are okay and you have all the relevant safety gear.

Mines 16 foot Brian and was worried if it was going to be ok. Been out a few times and it handles great no bother at all. We were out last sat and it got a tad bumpy and it still handled well. As Keith says just use common sense check reports and don't go out when it looks even a little bit dodgey and as long as you have all the safety gear bobs your uncle. Hope that helps pal

A 16ft boat is a good size to trailer and fish the inshore marks with. The engine though may be a little underpowered for that size of planning hull. In addition to the cost of the boat, you need to leave space in your budget for all the other essentials, like flares, lifejackets, radio, anchor, fishing rods, etc…

Have you seen a boat your going after, or are you just after a 16footer with 25hp. I would imagine a seahog shorty would fit the bill' but like's been said, might be under powered with 25hp, I would be looking at 40hp to keep you planing with 2 people and gear in it.
