Hi Could Anyone recomend a good spinning rod for me to buy?. I went to a angling shop yesterday and They had a fantastic range fron £20-£100 roughly but I was'nt sure which one to go for. I am going to mainly use it for spinning for mackeral then hopefully going to use it some time to go for bass etc. Do I go for a cheap one or a more expensive one, I am wanting a one to cast up to 45g. Some had cork handles which the shop recomended. I have seen loads on the internet as well .Thanks

I'm using an old Shakespeare Targa 8' with matching reel that I've had for a hell of a long time, bought as a combo for under £30. I use it all the time for other fishing (harbours, estuaries etc) aswell as spinning. Also got a Zensorflex that I bought last year which is cheap as chips used to be and also pretty nice handling.

i use a ron thompson zensorflex 9ft spin casts 10-40g coupled with a D-A-M AT 140 RD reel got them for less than £30 quid cant fault them, you can also pick up half decent ledger rod about 10ft and couple it with above reel for about £20 for bass.

maybe think about a carp rod, lot more versatile, something with a 1.75 to 2lb test curve, will throw a 3oz lead a long way for flatties and the like and will cast heavy spinners a long way, I have some mould for 30g and 60g sprat type lures, and it will cast either a good distance, probably the rod I use more than anything else

i can vouch for the carp rod as a good spinning rod, i use a shakespear which i paid 30 quid for and it does chuck a 2oz out a canny way. i also sometime use a 10 foot float rod for when wanting to go lighter, you get an epic fight.

i use a greys spin lovely rod incredible strength once had 5 macky on and got all of them up the side of shields pier.paid about 160.00 for it worth every penny and of course you get that all important life time guarantee.

i got me a 9' shakespeare "in 2" 18 - 50 gram off flea bay, 9 poond and 5 postage and i quite simply cannot fault it:) if its only for the macky, why spend a fortune? teamed with an okuma razor 40 (15 quid) perfect, and if i knack it........................ i'll just buy another one:D

9ft shakespeare pro-am spinning rod 10-40 gram, cost less than £15 ,have had it for 2 years now and can't fault it

salt spin

salt spin

a use a shakespeare salt spin, cracking rod mat would def recomend it , its 10ft nice action really good quality, ideal for mackeral pollock, bass a great little rod bout £50 but if u look about can prob get it cheaper:)

get yourself down to N.E.T.S tackle shop h'pool, 10 ft mitchel spinning rod with a mitchel reel and they even throw in a macky float or spinner, 20 quid the lot. and the reel is fully loaded

bought a berkley carp rod 12 ft with 3lb test curve its one great rod puts a spinner/plug out a long way. most berkley rods are very expensive but i got the B4 which cost £50 have used rods which cost £150 and dont handle as good as this.

If its just a cheap rod you want for the mackeral season go to aldi. They have a good selection of telescopic carp rods & reeels in stock for about £20. they also have boxes of spinners and spools of line.
You can even get a spinning reel with a spare spool for less than £8.

I would just like to say thanks to everone's help on the site. I bought a maver 10foot spinning rod today.
Thanks again everyone for the help and advice.

Sports & Leisure mate.
Got my Targa combo from there, thinking back it must be 8yrs old now and still rod and reel are going well despite a lot of abuse. Sub £30 for the combo and I use them more than any other kit, spinning, floats, light gear etc - the only rod with fish scales all over it in my kit!
