Hendon Prom 26th Little bit of sport

Fished Hendon Prom middle of the far end blocks Friday afternoon in the sun (and rain). Fancied having the place to myself for a while and I did. Fished two rods, one full distance (for me) and one slightly closer in. Was getting small bites on both rods practically every cast, keeping me busy but not connecting to much. Got a small 3 inch Codling and a 6 inch Rockling (which explains why I could not connect to many of the small bites). But after a while I got a big bounce on the closer in rod which kept bouncing until I struck but somehow missed it so put the rod down again and left it to see if it would come back. This bite was much bigger and I could feel the weight of the fish at the other end so it was not the usual nursery fish that were biting this time. After about 10 minutes it was there again, bouncing until I grabbed the rod, waited a couple of seconds this time, then I was into a better fish. Got it half way in and it must have dived into some rocks because it snagged hard. I immediately released the tension to see if the fish would pull me out of the snag and it did and I was reeling again. Got the fish close to the jagged blocks and saw a flash which told me it was not a Coddy (too late in the year anyhow for a decent one). I was thinking is this my first Bass ... (wishful thinking :p) ... but then I went for the lift and saw that it was a nice Coley of about a pound and a half, then it bounced off a rock and was gone. Not really a catch, more of a fight and release, but at least I saw it ! A further 4 inch Flounder was offered by the other rod as a consolation prize before I left. Not much about but a little bit of sport on an empty Prom. Bait was straight lug on 2 hook flappers on both rods.

Myself, me mate Hooker and his better half Jude fished there yesterday. In the middle over the sand banks looking for a Plaice or two. Hooker got one codling, I Got three codling and a rockling and Jude blanked.
Baits used were Lug, Rag, Squid, Razor Clams, Prawns and Maccy. All my fish caught on rag tipped with maccy.

It's a canny venue.
