herring on roker pier

fished roker pier tonight from 7pm until 10.30pm, there was about 40 mackerel caught and thousands of big herring as soon as people's daylights hit the water there was 6 herring on each cast was the same herring after herring, very strange for them to suddenly show up in these kind of numbers

just got back from shields pier,was quiet all night,until about 9.30 then just switched on,tide brung them closer in,herring 1 after another along with about 30-40 mackerel,big 1s awell,then light went and it stopped,herring weren't sprats either,good size

Are you sure they are herring, I suspect they are Shad, they are a protected fish and should be returned!!!!
