Well lads in the bad books with the missus cos i went fishing today. Was hoping for a cod after the rough seas. Got to the Heugh and there was a couple of lads on. No Cod but plenty of whiting. Thought i,d keep a few for the pan.

Mind i suffered trying to release some hooks to let some go.

I was the only one left on and decided to call it a day at 6pm. Tried every trick in the book to avoid the whities using 6-0 hooks with massive baits but no use. Some of the whities being brought in were huge. One lad had one 40 cm which was as wide as my seat on my top box.
Tight lines Mick.
ps i should,nt complain as any fish is better than no fish.:)

reading the previous reply from spotter, and i am fairly new to the forum,am i right in thinking some of the senior members d,ont approve of keeping whiteys.....if so we have the same type of members in our fishing club who think all trout should be caught on fly and us meer mortals who use maggot and worm should be put in irons and flogged in public for daring to catch trout..... well done mick some nice whiteys

rats

rats

each to there own m8 but there like rats no skill in catching them waste ov good bait thay spoil many a night trying to get past em:rolleyes:

Aye your right they can be a pain but i always use massive hooks and leave them out for a while even when rods knocking--live bait for a big cod.
Never caught one this way but mags says you can.

Mick.

Heaviest fish in the Nationals this year was a 6lb cod Mick, caught on a whiting which had swallowed hook out through the gills.

Aye Peter i remember the big cod caught in the tyne 20lb plus caught by Hartlepool lad. It went for a slug caught on on of the pennel hooks.
I,m out on the 30th for the comp-hoping my mate Ian J can get away in time.
