After the big seas over the weekend I decided to give Horden a go in the hope of landing an early season codling. With HT at 20:15 I got to the beach for 17:15 after picking up some excellent fresh lugworm from CoastRoad Tackle. Although the sea had settled down considerably there was still a decent bit of swell coming in
I quickly got set up fishing two rods, one with a pennel clipdown stuffed with lugworm and belted out and the other with a two hook flapper, rag bait dropped short in the hope of a Bass
Things were very quiet during the flood tide, not helped of course by it still being light. I did have one decent bite but when I struck into it I also pulled into what must be the only snag on that part of Horden beach resulting in a lost shockleader, rig and fish.
High tide came and went and as the ebb kicked in the sun went down. With still no sign of any action I was starting to think I was a day late but then a rattling bite on the distance rod saw a blank saving Whiting on the beach. Another hour passed and no further interest, I was just thinking of packing up and going home when I had a good pull on the distance rod followed by slack line everywhere. Grabbed the rod and reeled like a bugger until I finally caught up with it and a short scrap later I had a lovely plump fresh run codling of 1 3/4lb on the beach
I had been about to pack up but decided on one more cast which resulted in another small Whiting but running short of bait I decided to call it a night with the final tally being two Whiting and a nice codling to come home for tea
