Safely.
If you are going to start swinging the lead then doing so safely is the most important thing, because getting it wrong can mean life or death for the angler next to you. It is a huge responsibility.
80lb shockleader, properly tied rigs (not the cheap and nasty jobs off ebay) and a rod that is up to the job are all essential. Start by learning and mastering the OTG cast
YouTube - Casting with Frank Butcher Part 1 there is no point trying to pendulum cast until you have. Best way to learn is with an instructor or get along to a casting day. I've cast with all the lads Dean mentions except for Tommy, I've also cast with Mark Jakins (he taught me), Steve Boyt and our very own Jamie Blakeman who is awesome BTW. Without fail they are willing to answer questions, offer help and guide you in the right direction. If you are serious get yourself along to NESA at Kirkleatham (see the links in the casting section below), plenty of top blokes there who will see you casting well and safely in no time.
