bought some black lugworm lately and iv never seen this type before, small with a red bit near the end of the tail, normally the blacklug i get is big, but these were no bigger than 4"... still caught fish with them tho. so any info on these would be great as its the first iv seen or used them

lad in the shop said they were frozen blacks.. iv had frozen blacks before and they never had a bright red tail

There probably just frozen yellowtails mate.

Maybe the iodine inside the tail had a chemical reaction in the worm when frozen down, causing it to go a red colour. ;)

What's the best way to get the stain off yellow tail worms off yer hands?

I tend to just scrub it off using soap in a good hot bath/shower after fishing. This probably removes 70% of the yellow staining from the iodine for me, the rest a just cannot remove, but gradually fades away over a couple days.

Same mate, just thought someone might know a magic formula to get all the sh*t off in a couple of minutes.

nah they wernt yellow tails frozen down.... the worm was mostly black then a bit red about a centermeter and the bottom of the tail was black

andy, you could be right, iodine goes red when cooled to -60, but i cant see a fridge freezer getting that cold

small handful of soap powder mixed with a teaspoon of washing liquiud does the trick for me

also few year ago a got a tub of mangers ultra industrial wipes for use of oil, paint, grease etc from a mate they were brilliant for getting the runny stains off hands, but me daughter got her hands on them when she moved into a new house last year and every one who helped her decorate used them to clean their hands and promptly used used the whole tub up, and all thought they wre the bees knees ,

they are made by johnstones leyland if any wants to try them

was this bait frozen or fresh when you bought it ?

A lot of wrapped blacks sold in tackle shops further south are coming from holland i believe, if frozen these may have been sourced elsewhere in europe, not sure if this is the case but maybe!!

Regarding the staining after using blacks and yellow tails only one thing works really well and that is neat bleach, pour some into your hands and rub thoroughly, use a nail brush to get into the the edges of your nails, the staining turns black instantly and then washes off, hands get very warm from the reaction with the bleach. Stings like a bugger if you have had a busy night unhooking loads of whities, it finds all the little teeth scrapes!!
