Inshore Amble June 1st

A short trip 10am - 2.30pm not going far but kept picking away on the hard ground, ending up catching about a dozen cod of which I kept three for boss indoors. Still a lazy northerly swell going keeping a bit of colour in the water and the mackerel away. Was going to have a try for the pollack but the fish finder is on the blink, keeps shooting down to 1200ft ! dodgy range shift switch, still good to get out in the little boat.

hi - where would you reccommend fishing inshore to amble, as I am moored up there and have had zero success so far around coquet ?

Any advice would be more than appreciated :)

Anywhere around coquet island has fish and a lot of boats fish there, cross the bay north and fish the hard ground to the north or head south to northern hill or the skeers at cresswell, which is staring to get a bit further afield but good fishing .there is a wreck about 4 miles out which is probably the closest wreck , if you fancy a go at that, it can be stuffed or devoid of fish though :(
The next couple of months should see fish most everywhere on the hard ground round , if you find a hotspot and really hamer the fish, be sure to come on here and tell everyone , :D

Well, we'll be popping out again today and will give the north side of coquet a bash again. Hopefully with more success. We fished the skeres a couple of weeks ago with good outcome ( 9 cod beween two of us, around 3-4lb each with 8lb the biggest )

Its just been a bit too swelly since to travel that far, so will bash away at the shelf just off coquet this afternoon.

Results to follow :)

Thanks again for your advice.

Well done m8 a nice haul of fish and looking at your post you are not greedy by just keeping enough to take home so well done to you m8 :cool::cool:

They are nice firm looking fish Colin, and before you mentioned the pics were taken on your phone, I was thinking, what sharp pics they were, so no need to apologise. Good report.

Wife asked for a few fillets for her dad so I thought 6 fillets should be enough, fish always better fresh than frozen. Seems ages since I caught them though with this northerly swell spoiling planned trips. A bit lumpy for me today and I heard the water is still dirty inshore, still no mackerel for me yet! Where's the westerlies!

I gave it a miss today as well col, bit of both the weather and not feeling too good, I've had itchy feet all day wanting to go but convinced myself I'll enjoy it more when I'm more up for it, the boat is out for an engine service this week coming , so expect some flat seas and sunshine soon

Well, we got out yesyerday, nice flat sea. Fished skeres, a wreck off the skeres, and coquet. Not so much as a bite. The water was manky around coquet, from all the rain i think. The fish must have bwen on goliday i think.

Made the right decision not to go yesterday by your report, I keep in contact with the potters and they'll tell me when it's improved, probably while your out the water Ray.
