Intermediate line.

Well lads the intermediate line arrived today. Was disappointed to see it is clear nylon, however when i think about it this is probably the best colour. The line is mid water or down a couple of feet so will not need to spook any fish.

Hello Mick dont give it another thought I have fished the last 5yr with a clear intermediate and wouldn't swap it for the world as I personally strongly believe it avoids spooking fish I've fished on hard days next to mates with coloured lines and caught when they haven't!! and fishin the same flies after me catching and telling LOL

Lines are all different colours - complex arguments all over regarding colour perception at depth, and remember you are usually using a fairly long leader (and tippet) which is almost always clear. People argue the toss over the refractive index of line material, one of the reasons pure flourocarbon is used and people pay wads for it. It's a complex business and to suggest a line is coloured because it's cheap is a bit wrong IMO

Ive got quite a lot of different intermediate/sinking lines and thought about the slime vs cloured line debate quite a bit. Personaly I cant say that Ive noticed any difference in my catches. What I would say is that slime lines tend to tangle more due to the nylon core, espescialy in colder weather.

Ive know some very good anglers who swear by them and others who say they dont make a difference.??

The one bad thing about solid core lines is you have to use braided loops to attach your leaders.Never liked them.Iv,e always used a needle or superglue knot to attach a tapered butt piece then my leader.The older lines had a braided core which made this possible.The tapered butt helps the leader turn over a lot better.less wind knots....
On my way out with the spinning rod now to catch low water and try for a seatrout or two.Will post if i get any........

whats in a colour mick, tha's nee rules (as me mara would, and quite often does say:exclam with regard to line colour, generally, the higher the density (faster sink rate) the darker the colour, thats the way its been for as long as i can remember, and if you think about it, it kinda makes sense.

they reckon they're (clear int lines) ideal on a fishery with gin clear water where the fish may be easily spooked. agree with pete regards the 'some people swear by them, others say there's no diffference', although an awful lot of people say a 'slime' line casts well can't really comment as i don't own one. i use the aiflo sixth sense fast glass and it's pure class.

anyway, as long as you can cast it mick and it sinks like wot it sez on the packet, it'll be right and them stockies up the derwent won't know whats hit em, of that i'm sure.............

Tried the new lines today guys and not that impressed. Fast sinking was good,intermediate nothing flash and floating-well i thought my shakespear wf 6 in yellow was better on my old shakespear reel. Stiil i,ll give it a couple of sessions and see how i feel later.
