After a question from Dowly yesterday I decided to have a wander down to the river to see what is going on there. I could not find anyone that could tell me whether it is officially open yet so I took a walk along the new park. It has all new railings fitted and if the boats don't go back there it looks a cracking fishing spot. I don't know whether it will be snaggy or not with all the work that has gone on there but as far as I know the area was heavily dredged and excavated underwater to lay in the new sections for the tunnel and then covered over again. By the bits and pieces of line etc left lying I would imagine that people are fishing there already but whether it is classed as trespass or not I do not know. There were no signs saying No Admittance and I was able to walk straight through the open fence at the crane end. I have took a few photos with my phone but they are not the best quality. If I had a decent camera with me I could have got some pics of a family of rats which were feeding on some discarded bait near the crane but my zoom was not good enough. There is also a half pipe type structure that has been put in for the kids for bmxs or skateboards. Probably will be motorbikes soon knowing Jarrow.
