Jarrow riverside park

After a question from Dowly yesterday I decided to have a wander down to the river to see what is going on there. I could not find anyone that could tell me whether it is officially open yet so I took a walk along the new park. It has all new railings fitted and if the boats don't go back there it looks a cracking fishing spot. I don't know whether it will be snaggy or not with all the work that has gone on there but as far as I know the area was heavily dredged and excavated underwater to lay in the new sections for the tunnel and then covered over again. By the bits and pieces of line etc left lying I would imagine that people are fishing there already but whether it is classed as trespass or not I do not know. There were no signs saying No Admittance and I was able to walk straight through the open fence at the crane end. I have took a few photos with my phone but they are not the best quality. If I had a decent camera with me I could have got some pics of a family of rats which were feeding on some discarded bait near the crane but my zoom was not good enough. There is also a half pipe type structure that has been put in for the kids for bmxs or skateboards. Probably will be motorbikes soon knowing Jarrow.

looks good for fishing mark, is it lighted up at night.my only concern who will show up after dark.probably kids up to no good i guess. i know i should be more positive, but been born and bread in jarrow. it wont stay clean for very long mate.

There looked to be plenty of street lighting on the paths down to the river but none on the waterfront like at the Walkway.
Ooh you are a pessimistic lot:p

i give it a month and it will be grafeited mate and crap left all over

a month? i was along 3 weeks ago and someone had moved the fence to get in there and could not believe the crap that was left, all sorts of old bait that had been discarded and thrown on the ground inches away from the rail and would';vr been just as easy to throw it over the side, also i counted 6 bits of rag which had been left, the mess was unbelievable and was not even open whats it gonna be like after a couple of weeks i dread to think

It will be fine on a night, can't see it getting vandalised all that much. The type to vandalise it would already of done it by now.

I've spent many a night down there and up Hebburn marina when I was younger (only 22 now) without seeing any of these kids that are "up to no good" or "smack heads" that were mentioned in a thread about leaving your car at Hebburn marina.

It will be just fine there, I don't like seeing people slagging these areas off when they aren't even bad, just puts people off going.

Yeah, most of the rubbish that was there was left by careless anglers and not vandals.
Wouldn't leave my car at Hebburn marina on a night though.

called for some bait this afternoon and was told some idiot has had a fire on the tarmac ,fupid stuckers want drowned at birth.

i was down there 2 weeks ago got a few flatties and some good size whiting out of that spot . if you look closely when you go there people have tied plastic bags on the railings where there are some good marks
