had another day out yesterday steamed off to souter point first off. dropped anchor and sat back. very slow 1 small codling 1 whiting. gave it a hour, was no tide pull at all even though supposedly big tides [5.4] upped anchor and steamed to cullercoats.
put the pick in again and sat back,1 cod 3lbs a couple of whitings , a few fish on and lost on the way up. a fair few bites but still no real tide pull and its now mid tide.
moved again. slack water again by now.
eventually you could see the tide starting to pull on the boat and near by pot dahns. immediately the bites started to increase. codlings 2-3lbs whitings, pouting, more codling,
then a couple of nice cod around 5lbs a few more 2-3lbs another couple around 5-6lbs,and a fair few lost on the way up, as at times they were biting very shy.
so the last couple of hours was decent fishing with around 30 cod or so half a dozen in the 5-6 lbs range.and a scattering of whitings and pouting. not to bad for 4 rods so a slow morning but canny afternoon, and its just nice to have a run out

tide

nice result alan:)

the tide is a strange thing, sometimes there when not expected sometimes it is:question:

im sure someone will offer a highly technical scientific explanation:D:D

Yes Allan it was a canny day, it wasn't half as cold as I had expected either, been out on colder days in april. Anyway, ended up with 4 nice codlings, chucked quite a few back and lost half or dozen on the way up, one of them was real nice fish :mad::mad:

Hope its the start of good things for 2015!!!!

Great result chaps some nice fish well done skipper and crew !
And uptiding never mentioned at all ! :)

aye bert agree its really just fishing at anchor [downtiding] as no one is really casting away from the boat at all.
hows the mackerel gurdy coming along ??

Well Alan the" belt type bait catcher " as we call it is not far away from completion just needs a little tweeking and fitting to the boat ! It's a little over engineered for the purpose and I recon 30 hooks will do the trick ! It will probs only be used a few times and then passed on ..after all there's bigger fish to fry !
