Jumping eels

was fishing a mark locally recently and saw eels jumping out the water.. didnt think much of it untill reading about bass, is it possible that this was bass chasing them or do they jump out the water of any other reason??

more likely to be mackeral - depends where you were fishing ,not 100% ,but i am sure they go round the coast in an anti clockwise direction ,so saying as we had them last month (south Shields) ,and if you were fishing north of us ,could be mackeral - or maybe they just fancied a bit of sun on their backs

i thought it could be aswell but this was a sheltered spot and they less then 10 yards out on a dead carm day and i didnt think macky came in that close,, pluss they were'nt broiling up or anything it was just the od 1 or 2 every few minuets !!??

sorry for being so vage about the mark but if it is bass i dont want them netted !!

I wouldnt expect anything less - next time chuck a lure or plug into them and see what takes it

i have had one Bass on fresh crab ,but this isnt the norm ,for where i was fishing - tasted nice though

Good Luck

we were watching the gulls take plenty of them just of the piers at tynemouth,(on the boat)also jumping oot the water, plenty of mackie below
