Just bloody typical...

I decided to start sea fishing again recently, so sold some stuff to buy some gear, as I dont have any spare cash. went out today for a shot of blanking :p. about 5 casts in, with just a short cast the bloody top 12 inches of my GRX-s rod snapped off.
Just bloody typical... Off to see if I have anything else to sell to buy another rod, not ready to give up now...

FFS!

Rant over!!!

Mick,
If your rod is new, I would take it back to the shop where you bought it and complain, especialy like it sounds like it snapped for no good reason. If you get no joy from the tackle shop then as Mick Dunn says I would CERTAINLY confront Greys about it. Seems like some of their rods are getting a bit of a reputation for snapping (re - a few other posts on this problem), so I would hope they would replace the tip section FREE of charge.
I must add here however, I have owned a Greys BZE for a number of years, and have never had a problem with it.
I realy hope you get something sorted out mate. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunatley, with money being tight its a 2nd hand rod. I have emailed them and explained what happened and asked about a replacement top section, so fingers crossed they can help...

cheers again

Keep us informed mate, I bought a gxr-s as a second rod but never really used it... been out around 5 times maybe lol. welcome to take it off my hands

i snapped a srx casting, got it replaced by a platinum xs as they didnt make the srx anymore... dispite buying the srx 2nd hand!

platinum wasnt a touch on the srx... loved it dearly!

ooooo thats good to here, how did you manage to wangle that?? what approach did you take?? I'd be chuffed to bits if they just replace the top section for me.

Finally got an answer from Greys, it used to be £15 but now its £40 for replacement fly and course sections and £50 for sea sections. SOD THAT!!

SnaggedUpLad you have PM mate ;)

sorry to hear of your situation bud...hope u get sorted... i heard them grey rods are chinese made i think thats why older grey rods are much more sought after now ....

Interesting...........didn't realise they were made in China. Maybe why some of them are prone to snapping as they might have a 'chink' in the blank ?

thats a pitty that happened mate
glad to see it never put you off though
I would have thought about saying to whoever sold you it, I know if I sold a rod to someone and this happened through no fault of their own Id do something about it plus the guy might have the lifetime warranty and get it replaced for you

i went to the factory and expressed my disguest at the rod snapping without another mark on it... basically. Also tried to pressure them to find me a srx somewhere but had to settle for the platinum :(
think it was the most expensive rod though braught out and ever have done if i remember rightly

Greys Rubbish

Greys Rubbish

Hi. Sorry to hear about your rod!

We hear about this too much with these cheap imported rods from Korea. I would honestly recommend you stay away from these cheap imports (Which aren't even that cheap for foreign tat!) The main culprits being Greys and Sonic, they buy cheap rods from the far east and expect breakages; hence the lifetime warranty! Might seem like a good idea, but at £50 a section the company are still making money ON A FULL ROD!!!! Don't get me wrong, the odd person will buy a Greys or Sonic and find them half decent, but I think I speak for most when I say, spend your money on maybe even a second hand Century or Zziplex, which wont let you down!!
