Kayak Fishing

Hello, i am very interested in Kayak fishing now that ive seen some pictures and videos. Cheers to 'MT2' and 'MallconPak' for their thread and pictures of yak fishing.
so im jsut wondering, if i were to buy a yak, which rods are quality? wheres some of the best places to fish and what rigs do you use there? Where do you store your yaks? I'm pretty sure theres not but do you have to be a certain age to kayak on your own / with a friend under 18 as im only 15 ( but have been a keen fisher for like 8 years now)
Any tips and info is appreciated :)

Cheers.

I dont yak but sure the lads will same the say...most important thing and yu will see from there pics...NEVER GO OUT ALONE. If you run into trouble, tip or anyone of a 100 things always best to have help at heand..the yak lads will fill you in with all the info on spots and gear i am sure.

Well where do I start! Never go out alone Safety in numbers. You will need safety gear all the time, Personal flotation device (PFD), drysuit or wetsuit for summer,VHF radio, Mobile etc, best meet up with some kayak anglers from your area or you are more than welcome to see ours when we are next out. As for rods i use cheapish rods to start with because if it's not leashed to the yak you will loose it overboard, it's the same for all your gear you carry on the yak.Rigs. keep them simple either 1 or 2 hook nothing fancy and i use no more than 20lb breaking strain on my hook snoods and weight because if you get stuck you will anchor the kayak and if you don't know what to do you will probably end up tipping it by trying to break out of the snag. I use a drysuit most times and only a wetsuit if it's hot,
Hope this has been of some help.

Yes it has been very helpful :)
if i got a VHF radio i wouldnt know what to do with it to be honest so ill probably take a mobile.
where do you yak?
hmm ive got a few ideas about homemade improvements to tie things to the yak e.g. chop the ends off a in-car phone charger and cable tie a snap hook onto both ends and then one end to the rod and other to the yak :) rod leash.
its on youtube if you want to have a look for it

If you got a radio you would need a licence to operate it local courses are normally availabe.
We go all over but mainly around the north east, blyth cambois, tyne etc. there is no limit as it goes on top of the car as long as you can have a safe launch. i have only been as far as st.abbs. i have seen the leashes on youtube.if you are realy interested have a look here

I'd love to come and just watch,
i live in the centre of Sunderland and Roker beach is a great place to launch, i used to have yak lessons at the watersports centre there.
Yeah thats the thing, getting the yak to the water would be a problem unless i can convince the parents to get roof racks for the car :P
They usually agree with things i want to do but they seem abit iffy on this one.. :/
I'm already a member of kayakfishinguk.net and have posted a thread on there too just to gather more info :)

Agree with everything malconpak is saying although i started up this year and went out alone at first but i did have all the safety equipment including VHF etc. Cant stress enough to get the safety side right first including anchor and trolley setup correct. Eventually i found the lads in the area and have been out a few times which is much better for safety reasons but also the banter. I started late this year so did not get out as much as i wanted but when i did it was brilliant and best decision i have made as i had left my fishing for a few years due to being too busy with work. As MP says you more than welcome to come along when any of us launch to have a look and setup. I think more and more people are getting into it which will be good for the sport. It seems strange now hoping for flat calm condtions to get out when all the shore lads are looking for seas like the weekend. Again as been mentioned have a look at anglersafloat.co.uk, a brilliant site with tons and tons of information!!
Only other thing i will say is its highly addictive and you might end up dumping your shore stuff:red:
